Intro to Canyoneering Course - 2 Days
Description:
This course is the perfect primer for those who are looking to begin canyoneering along with those wanting to refresh their understanding of the many core concepts. The basics are a critical starting point for every responsible individual entering canyons. Throughout this "Intro to Canyoneering" course you will learn to identify and understand core concepts of trip planning, equipment, rappelling, rigging, canyon movement, overall general safety and much more. The goal of this course is to have you leave understanding the core concepts of canyoneering, so you can become a contributing team member while in a canyon with competent leaders and mentors. We will spend 2 days together going over core Skills.

Technical Skills Covered:
What Do We Provide:
The course fee includes the use of all required technical gear this includes harness, helmets, ropes, as well as 7mm wetsuit farmer John bottoms, 3.5 mm Wet suit tops, and neoprene socks. Participants are more than welcome to bring any gear they may already have.
What Should Participants Bring:
Personal gear, lunch and clothing. Weather can vary greatly in the outdoor especially at the beginning and the end of the season. The following list covers a wide range of possibilities. Should sunny warm conditions be forecast some items may be unnecessary. Remember that weather can change fast so even if the day starts out sunny you may still need rain gear in the afternoon.

Course Location:
We base our Courses out of the Canmore and surrounding area. Canmore is approximately one hour west of Calgary.
Meeting Time & Location:
Meeting time is at 8:00 am at the Heart Creek Trail Parking lot. (Please check the directions and map outlined below); or at a predetermined location in Canmore. After meeting your guide all participants will shuttle together to the outdoor classroom location for the course.

Accommodation:
Accommodation is not provided in the cost of the course. Participants will be able to attend the course as day trips from Calgary. Alternatively there are many budget all the way up to luxury accommodation options in Canmore that can vary from Camping, Hostels, all the way up to 5 star Hotels. Itinerary
Day 1
8:00 am: Meet and greet. From the meeting location we drive approximately 30 min to our training location into the heart of the Rocky Mountains.
8:30 am - 1:00 pm: The morning will be spent covering several of the basics of canyoning including:
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm: The afternoon will be spent practicing the skills and concepts covered in the morning in one of the nearby canyons.
Day 2
9:00am - 5:00pm: Today we continue with topics introduced on the previous day. We also further skills and cover topics including
We spend the day at a second canyon location, further practicing skills and hands on learning the principals covered over the past two days.
